세계 피부과학회(World Congress of Dermatology)가 2011년 서울에서 개최된다.
이번 지난 1일부터 5일까지 아르헨티나의 부에노스아이레스에서 개최된 21차 세계피부과학회에서 벌어진 22차 대회 개최지에 대한 투표에 서울로 최종 확정됐다.
제 22차 세계 피부과학회 한국 유치위원회( 위원장 은희철)에 따르면 이날 각국의 회원 수를 감안한 비례대표제로 구성된 200여명의 투표인단으로 구성된 총회석상에서 대한민국 서울이 2011년 22차대회 개최지로 런던과 로마를 큰 표차로 따돌리고 1차 투표에서 과반수 이상의 투표를 확보해 최종 결정됐다.
차기부터는 4년마다 개최하기로 최근 정관에 개정됐다.
그동안 세계 피부과학회(World Congress of Dermatology)는 1889년 프랑스 파리에서 처음 개최된 이후로 매 5년 마다 학회 장소를 변경, 개최돼 왔다.
이에 한국 유치위원회는 이번 21차 부에노스아이레스 세계학회에서 약 20,000명 이상(동반자, 전시자 포함)이 참여하는 등 세계 피부과학회는 피부과의 단일 학회로는 가장 큰 규모여서 스포츠계의 올림픽이나 월드컵에 비견될 수 있다고 전했다.
세계 피부과학회는 그 동안 국내에서 개최된 의학분야의 어느 세계학회를 견주어서 가장 전통적이며 큰 규모의 학회로 아시아 권에서 1982년 일본에서 유일하게 개최된바 있다.
한국 유치위원회는 그 동안 북한의 핵 문제로 대규모 국제학회유치에 어려움을 겪어왔다.
이를 위해 대한피부과학회는 약 6년 전에 유치위원회를 정식 발족시켜 은희철 유치위원장(서울대학교 의과대학교수)과 김수찬사무총장(연세대학교 의과대학교수)을 선임하고 대한 피부과학회의 중진들로 구성된 유치위원회를 총 가동, 오랜기간 전폭적인 지지를 해왔다.

Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen,
OnbehalfofallthemembersoftheKoreanDermatologicalAssociation,itismygreatpleasuretopresentourproposaltobidforthe22ndWorldCongressofDermatology.
Iwasbornin1949,justoneyearbeforetheKoreanWarbrokeout.TheconsequencesofthewarleftKoreaoneofthepoorestcountriesintheworld.IstillvividlyrememberthepainandsufferingthepeopleofKoreaexperiencedduringthisperiod.
Fortunately,forthepast50yearsremarkablechangeshavetakenplaceinour society. Overcoming numerous occasions of political turmoil and social instability,Koreahasdevelopedsteadfastly.OurgenerationhaswitnessedthedevelopmentofmodernandvibrantKorea. Being part of this transformation has been an awesome experience.
Asyouhaveseeninthevideopresentationduringtheluncheon,Koreaisaglobalcontributorinthefieldsofeconomyandsports.ItisnowtimeforourcountrytocontributesimilarlytoScienceandMedicine.Inthisregard,hostingtheWorldcongressofDermatologyin2011willbeagreathonorandachanceforKoreatoorganizearemarkablemeetingfordermatologistsoftheworld.
LookingoverthepastWorldCongressesofDermatologythereisnodoubtthatthesecongresseshavepromotedthegrowthofregionaldermatologyinandaroundthehostingcountries.Inthissense,providingopportunitiesforholdingtheWorldCongressofDermatologyondifferentcontinents is very desirable. LondonandRomehavealreadyhadthepleasureofhostingthiscongress;itmusthavebeenagreatpleasureforthem.WethinkthatiftheynowsharethatpleasurewithSeoultheirjoywillbefargreater.
I am sure hosting the Congress in SeoulwillpromotedevelopmentofdermatologyinthehighlypopulatedAsian-Pacificregion.
One of the important aims of the World Congress of Dermatology is education.
Unfortunately,manypartsoftheworldarestillsufferingfromcontrollabledermatologicalproblems.Tocopewiththis,continuoustrainingofcapabledoctorsisabsolutelynecessary.FollowingthefootstepsofpreviousWorldCongresses,wewillprovide600scholarships-morethananypreviousWorldCongressesofDermatologyhaveoffered.
SeoulhasbeenthecapitalcityofKoreaforover600yearsandhasgreattraditionandmodernresources.ItisoneofthemajorhubsinEastAsiawithnumerousflightstoandfrommanydestinationsaroundtheworld.ForthisCongress,wehavechosentheprimeinternationallyexperiencedconventioncenterasthevenueinSeoul.
Ladiesandgentlemen,
